Chevrolet India has launched the BSIV version of its flagship MUV Tavera in the price range of Rs. 7.51 lakh to Rs. 10.34 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The MUV was carrying passengers only in BS3 compliant cities until now. Apart from the new engine, the Tavera also gets a minor facelift with the front end being the main area getting a new design. The interiors too are spruced up with a dual cockpit design, new instrumentation and beige colored upholstery to make the Tavera feel more upmarket.
The common rail turbo diesel engine (CRDe) which the new Tavera houses is rendered by ICML Sonalika and this 2.0 litre diesel engine is powerful enough to generate near about 105 Bhp of peak power and 262 Nm of peak torque. The Tavera Neo 3 is also available in a BS3 variant also with the 2.5 Liter 78 Bhp-186 Nm turbo diesel engine, and is priced at Rs 6.72 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. Tavera has undoubtedly the best engine in its class. The turbo charged Isuzu engine is quiet and very powerful. My Chevy easily touches the 150 KM per hour mark on the Pune-Mumbai expressway. The car gives amazing pickup at the slightest touch on the accelerator.
The Tavera is very easy to handle and the gears are very easy to change. The centre console provided in higher end models like mine, are very good and spacious. The power steering responds to the touch of a finger!!! The Tavera has a very small turning radius. So taking a U turn will not be problem even in the narrow streets. The steering wheel is very beautiful. My wife simply loves the leather covered steering, with a beautiful Chevy cross on it. The Tavera has amazing pickup and torque. It is possible to drive in the 3rd gear with a speed of 20Km/hr. This is specially useful in the city. It helps in fuel efficiency too! My Tavera’s gear shift is silky smooth.
